My step son and I built this center channel speaker for a school project.
This design is based off of measurements taken by Ratch and using his center channel recommendations. I adjusted the size of the ports to use some 2" PVC I had lying around instead of the 3" he has listed.
We used some 3/4" oak veneered MDF that I had lying around and painted it black for now.
(We were going to clear coat it but it had a couple of stains and dings in it that had to be covered up)
The sound from this setup is to say the least incredible!
We toyed around with adding a tweeter to it but, for center channel usage, it just did not need one.
I ran a test tone CD through it on a mono amp and we could hear from about 70Hz to over 15kHz very well with extreme frequencies still audible but not as pronounced.
This does way more than a center channel needs to as 5.1 and AC3 both cutoff below 90Hz and usually do not use above 12Khz.(I got this info from HT magazine)
I can't wait to get started building the front channel line arrays using these drivers and adding a
Radio Shack 40-1221 horn tweeter to each side.
I only wish I would have bought more of them to play around with when they were available.
