Tweaks for the 40-1354 5 1/4" Full Range

As you can tell by looking at the frame of this driver, it needs reinforcement. I use dynamat on the spokes and epoxy putty in the joint between the magnet and the frame to stiffen it up. This tweak actually stopped a ringing that I did not realize was there until I did and A/B test without it.

The Gasket on the front of the driver is used when the driver is mounted in a car or from the rear of a baffle. It is usless at best and causes diffraction problems at worst when left on and mounted in the standard position on the front of a baffle. To aid this, I take a single edge razor and lay it flat with the frame and cut the gasket level to it. Then (just for asthetics) I paint the raw paper of the gasket with flat black paint and an artist brush.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND DAMMAR ON THIS DRIVER!!!!

I do however, put a little rubber cement on the edge of the whizzer. (Got this tip from GM) It will clean up the treble considerably.

And, last, but certainly not least, do the Lowther donut trick. It is a piece of foam strip put snuggly between the whizzer and the cone. I think this not only cures resonances in the whizzer but a little bitty honk I noticed in the mids.

That's all (for now) folks!

I sure hopes this helps.
